In certain situations it can be helpful to have contacts on mobile devices readonly.
The result
Using the example of an Apple iPhone CardDAV client:
✅ Contact changes or deletions only remain local and have no effect to other CardDAV clients.
✅ Local contact changes will be overwritten as soon as the contact changes changed on the server.*
✅ Locally deleted contacts will be added back as soon as the contact is deleted changed on the server (if CardDAV client with write permissions).
❌ Apple cannot prevent a local contact from being changed or deleted temporarily.
*After changing or deleting a contact on the iPhone, a synchronization with the CardDAV server must first be initiated (happens automatically after a while by iOS or manually by "dragging down" in the CardDAV contact list) before the contact changed or deleted in the source is overwritten or added back on the iPhone.
