As an MDM administrator, the level of deployment is freely selectable. Users can either find the sync.blue® app for Android
- and install it themselves (e.g. via the "Microsoft Intune Company Portal" app),
- get it installed automatically
- get it installed and configured automatically.
Automatic installation
The automatic installation is explained here using Microsoft Intune as an example. This should also be possible to implement in a similar way with other well-known MDM systems.
- Add a new app of the TYPE "Managed Google Play App" in the Intune Admin Center:
- Search for the sync.blue® app there and select it:
- Click on "Select" and then on "Synchronize":
- Click on "Update" until the new app sync.blue® appears in the list:
- Assign the app to a user, group and device by editing the app properties:
- Check the automatic installation for the Android device. This must have previously been registered in the MDM using one of the usual methods. The sync.blue® should then be found on the device as follows:
Automatic configuration
The managed app sync.blue® for Android has some managed parameters that can be distributed via an MDM system such as Microsoft Intune:
- sync.blue® Host
- From version 2.1.0, the sync.blue® Host must also be set, depending on the application used, this is directory (CardDAV by sync.blue®) or carddav (CardDAV by sync.blue® V2)
- CardDAV server user
- CardDAV password
- Sync interval (in minutes)
The CardDAV server, on the other hand, is stored permanently and cannot be changed (directory.sync.blue).
To automatically configure the sync.blue® app for Android on the devices, proceed as follows:
- Create a new app configuration policy in Intune Admin Center:
- Configure these properties:
- Configure the app parameters to be distributed:
Note on the sync interval: a daily sync is recommended (1440 minutes). The minimum is 15 minutes due to Android specifications.
- Assign these settings to the desired users, groups or devices:
- Check the settings and create the previously configured policy:
- Open the sync.blue® app on one of the assigned Android devices and check whether the app settings have now been automatically configured as desired and cannot be changed by the user:
- Check whether the contacts are on the Android device after the set sync interval has expired by opening the contacts app in the work profile and selecting the correct address book there:
